 About Online Therapy Sessions

  • Online counselling sessions are held via video call through an online database, Cliniko.

You can join the video via computer or phone, no apps required, only internet access.

  • A video call link will be sent to you in your booking confirmation and booking reminder emails.

The video link may be accessed via phone or computer.

There is no need to download software or apps to use.

  • Online sessions can feel daunting for some and more comfortable for others.

During online sessions your therapist may do more regular check ins with you to ensure engagement and emotional safety in session.

It is the role of your therapist to create a safe and confidential online space for you.

Sessions do not differ in intensity of therapy or how therapy is conducted. Some interventions, exercises or resources may be modified to accommodate the online space.

  • Our top tips for online sessions include:

    • find a private space in your environment where you feel you can speak freely. In busy homes some people go out to the car.

    • for family or couple sessions try finding a space where all can sit comfortably and be seen and heard by the therapist during session.

    • have a warm or cold drink or some sort of comfort available to you i.e. tissues, blanket, pillow, fidgeter etc.

    • at the end of session do something that represents “leaving” the session and entering back into “reality”. i.e. going for a walk, walking into another space, closing the laptop and walking away, leaving the phone in another room for a while, putting on some music, having something to eat.

  • The biggest benefit to online sessions is the flexibility it can offer.

Online sessions are conducted in the comfort of your own home or space. This means taking the travel and organisation of others out of appointments.

This is particularly beneficial for couples and families where organising numerous people to get to an appointment is stressful!

Our after hour sessions have meant families are able to complete evening routines around session time and some families have found it more comfortable to have sessions during dinner at the dinner table.

For families with teens, online sessions mean people can log in from different screens. Some young adults and teenagers feel more comfortable being in their own space during session as opposed to next to Mum on the lounge.

Taking the first step into therapy is daunting…… But it’s the bravest & best decision you can make for your mental health and well-being.
